Comet Lovejoy and M79

On Decenber 28, 2014, comet Lovejoy was within the same field of view as M79, a globular cluster 41,000 light years away from Earth. Being 60,000 LY away from the galactic center, scientists believe this cluster is not part of our galaxy. In contrast, Lovejoy (also known as C/2014 Q2) is only 60,000 kilometers from earth.
